The History of Juneteeenth
Juneteeenth is an African American freedom celabration thatbecame atradition whe on June 19, 1865, General Gordan Granger sailed into Galveston, texas harbor and issued a proclamation that gave freedom to still enslaved Blacks in that region. granger's proclamation freed a million enslaved blacks in Texas who were still in bondage 2 1/2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1,1863.
