1953 U.S. Supreme Court outlaws discrimination in Washington,D.C

William Washington Browne (1849-1897 ).was borna slave in Georgia and served in the Union Army durin the Civil War. he later attended school in Wisconsin, and afterward returned to the South, working as a teacher, Methodist preacher and businessman.

With the death of Mr. Browne in 1897, the U.S. Order of True Refomers was run by a commitee . For over 30 years the United Order of the True Reformers had operated as one of the largest and most successful black enterprises in the nation.
