arles Young (1864-1922) was the !st blk military attach'e in the history of the U.S. , he was accredited to Haiti. In 1889 Young was the #rd man of color to graduate from the military Academy, He was commissioned as 2nd LT. in the U.S. Calvary During the Spanish-American War, Young saved a Major in charge of the (th Ohio Regiment, an all- blk volunteer unit. He served in Haiti, the Phillipines, and Mexico, and by 1916, he had attained the rank of lt. colonel. In 1919, Colonel Young wassent as military attach'e to Liberia on a second tour of duty. He died during an inspection tour.
