Mr. Hatchett says he is done with having kids and says he can't support all 21 of his children. He says he never intended to have this many children, "It just happened." Knox County officials are trying to figure out how a man who works in a minimum wage job support 21 kids. By law, the state can only take 50% of his paycheck for child support. By the time that money is split 21 ways, some of the mothers get less than $2 per month.




Guess who's paying for the rest of the child support? Yep, Tennessee's taxpayers! All of the blame can't be placed on Hatchett in this case, but hell... who knows? He may have more kids on the way in the future. Should Desmond Hatchett be forced to have a vasectomy?

It steps on civil rights and the foundations of the country to force anyone to get a vasectomy. Ethically, however, it is probably the right thing for him to do for his children, partners, and for the taxpayers.

Well, you can't force the man to have a vasectomy so that one's out.

I find it interesting that he says he "can't support them all" but continued to plant his, er, seeds! Maybe he is trying to out do Osama Bin Laden.

At any rate, the mothers are equally at fault. If welfare would stop paying for children who are born twelve months after benefits are applied for, maybe more women would take responsibility.

OH.....not only that.....what happened to birth control? There is such a wide selection these days that no one should have a child unless they intend to.

Cmon. its not like he's runnin around rapin women and impregnating them...it takes two to tango - and based on these numbers, most of these mothers have more than one child with him. I don't think his claim that he's done havin kids necessarily means he won't have anymore...but I think we - women and men - all need to take much more responsibility for the consequences of our actions. Know who you're laying down with - and if u don't want a baby, do what you need to do to avoid having one.

But honestly...what really makes him so much different than a lot of other men in this country (and the world)? That he's having this much unprotected sex with this many different women? Or that he's having it with women who aren't on the pill and/or aren't having abortions? The most troubling thing about this story to me is the REPEATED irresponsibility...I don't quite understand why he didn't feel moved to alter his behavior earlier - like, maybe after the FIRST time he had 4 kids in the same year. But I think the general vices of this situation (promiscuous men who make little personal effort to prevent pregnancy), tho definitely less extreme in most cases, are very prevalent throughout the population.

I'd also be interested to know if he's abnormally fertile...but either way, court-ordered vasectomies will never get my vote.

Can you, or anyone else on this thread, support a child on that amount? Not only that, he had multiple pregnancies going on at the same time. How these women did not cross paths is beyond me. However, they were all in the courthouse as he went from hearing to hearing. How he escaped with his life is a mystery. "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."

Castration is too good for this creature. A vasectomy is simple enough, and to be desired if castration isn't possible. He could leave the state of TN, and end up in your neck of the woods. Maybe he'll gift your state with more of his illegitimate kids. As for the women, have tubal ligation's and do the world a favor. From other news forums, posts, etc., the common thread is "taxpayer monies." That isn't the most important thing, it is the children themselves. They didn't ask to be born, couldn't pick their parents, or the situation they will have to live in. It scares me to think government must make us accountable, but we are not going to do this on our own. There are no winners in this mess.

The only reason I don't think this man should be FORCED into a vasectomy is because I don't care how reckless I am, I would never want the state involved in my reproductive organs. I work for child support in FL and this kind of situation (of course, not as extreme) happens EVERYDAY. People with 7,8,9,10 kids, 10 baby mamas, 11 felonies and no jobs. This man should become personal property of TN state and they should work him like a dog until he provides enough, equally, for all his children. The mothers in this situation are ridiculous. I don't feel that the women should be singled out and publicized BUT they should be denied public assistance due to their lack of consideration and responsibility. You, me and everyone else you know that receives a paycheck are paying for these kids food, medical needs and all out spending money. A forced vasectomy, no. Being held fully accountable for your actions, hell yes.

Personally, I'd rather pay to feed, clothe and educate children now so as not to be paying to imprison them later. Maybe if we devoted a little more of our paychecks - and time, a much more precious resource - to those goals, the state of our nation would reflect those better priorities.

How many forms of birth control are out there? For both men and women? And he never "intended" to have this many children? How about using a condom after the FIRST "unexpected" child. How about that? Going to jail is too easy for him: three meals a day, daily exercise, free education, etc. How about the authorities make him work three jobs until the last child is 18 so he can pay child support and the taxpayers don't have to via the welfare system. This nightmare is why I advocate safe (protected) sex, monogamous relationships and marriage. And the problem today is that people don't believe in these three things (seemingly). When my father was growing up, there was a family in his town that had 22 children; yes, 22. HOWEVER, the father worked day and night, the mother took care of the children and the household (it was said she was clean, organized and a strict disciplinarian) AND they received NO STATE ASSISTANCE....AND....THEY WERE YES, MARRIED! I had the pleasure of meeting this woman when she was well into her 80's enjoying her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her husband had passed on....

If anyone should, he is a perfect choice. Per the news reports he earns minimum wage (TN = $6.55/hour) and has 21 children. The state can only take 50% of his earned income and demand that he pay anywhere from $25 to $300 monthly per child for child support... you do the math... I'm only coming up with an average of $27.03 per child before taxes. But of course, this is based on him working 40 hours, 52 weeks/year and we all know that this can't be possible due to his primary job as a "SPERM DONOR".
