CANADA LEE
Lionel Canegata was born in New York on March 3 1907. He attended school in Harlem, but at the age of 14 he ran awayto be a jockey at Saratoga. Aftergrowing to heavy and he became aboxerand eventually won the national amateur lightweight title. In 1926 he turned professionaland adopted the name "Canada Lee".
He was a leading conteder for the welterweight championship,but a detached retina forced him to reire from the ring in 1933.
